don’t do that

don’t try to persuade me

of things bereft of evidence or logic

feelings and beliefs are yours

they have no existence in the natural world

they come and then depart

like smoke in the wind

rain upon dry ground

conflagrations and floods may follow

leaving uncounted dead behind

but go they always do

so, stop

just stop

speak to me of logic and love

of evidence and eternity

sing with me of hope and forgiveness

as the children grow

building on what we leave behind
