stands a clay nativity family
and a crude wooden cross
inscribed with INRI
just to be clear
nearby stands a finer cross
painstakingly decorated with precisely cut bits of summer grass
above them all hangs
a SPAM can madonna
the can’s sides cut into curling rays
sharp as razors
madonna’s likeness painted in the center
a dark and indistinct figure
puzzled
uncertain
speaking my language
